What is a surety agreement?

A surety agreement formalises the surety's assumption of liability to a creditor for the performance of another person's obligation. It is governed by Articles 470–477 of the Civil Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The agreement is concluded only between the creditor and the surety — the principal debtor does not sign it.
